“Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests,

but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.”

The St Louis Post Dispatch published a series of exposés in April and May 2005 of former bookkeeper Joyce Meyer’s $90 million-a-year Empire with TV and radio programs that reach millions of people in about 70 countries, documenting her rich tastes sated by extravagant charges to her ministry.

Meyer can spend Joyce Meyer Ministries’ money any way she wants, because her board of directors is handpicked. It basically consists of Meyer, her husband and all four of her children (all on the payroll) plus a rotation from a half-dozen of Meyer’s closest cronies.

The ministry's board of trustees, which is headed by Joyce Meyer, agreed to pay her a $900,000 annual salary in 2002 and 2003.

After a Post-Dispatch investigation in late 2003 that raised questions about the ministry's spending, Meyer decided to take a reduced annual salary of only $250,000 in taxable income.

The ministry still provides the Meyers with free use of the home, the cars, the plane

+ An $80,000 annual retirement contribution

+ Meyer also receives her cut of $3 million a year in royalties

+ The board agreed to give her husband, Dave Meyer, the board's vice president, an annual salary of $450,000 in each of those same two years.

+ The board agreed to provide the couple with free personal use of a corporate jet and luxury cars, a $2 million home where all bills are paid by the ministry

+ A separate $50,000-a-year housing allowance.

+ The ministry paid $1.475 million to buy three houses for the three Meyer children.

+ The board authorized Joyce and Dave Meyer to control a $790,000 fund to be used at their discretion for bonuses to "executive management."

+ $101,076 to son David Meyer in 2003

+ The ministry also paid son David Meyer a $10,000-a-year housing allowance in 2002 and 2003, even though he lived in the ministry home free of charge

+ $49,453 to son Daniel Meyer in 2003

+ $14,250 in 2003 to daughter Laura Holtzmann for part time help

+ $50,203 in 2001 to daughter Sandra McCollum
